'Empowering Young People' project

In partnership with the Office of the Child Safety Commissioner (OCSC) and South East Centre Against Sexual Assault (SE CASA), 'Love Drunk' was combined with SE CASA's 'Respect, Protect, Connect' program and delivered in schools across Victoria, accompanied by comprehensive evaluation to measure the impact of the program. This project was supported by: Mr Geoff Handbury of Ace Radio and the Myer Foundation.

‘The provision of programs and services designed to support young people in negotiating the issues surrounding personal safety and respectful relationships has been identified as a gap in young peoples’ education. The OCSC seeks to support wider uptake of such programs by schools, and to ensure the quality of these programs through an evaluation of two existing programs, the Love Drunk performance and the Respect, Protect, Connect peer education program.’

Loddon Mallee, Sunraysia district VIC

'Love Drunk' toured across the greater Mildura region reaching over 1,700 young people in October 2009. This tour was made possible with the support of School Focused Youth Services, Mildura Arts Centre, local police and Mallee Sexual Assault Unit & Mallee Domestic Violence Service and each participating school.

‘They (students) participate with great enthusiasm in discussing their issues and how the performance makes them ‘think’ about looking out for themselves and for their mates......hits hard at their every day issues and being more responsible and respectful to themselves and each other.'
